About Us

Chairman’s Welcome

tony-carson“Plymouth Construction Training Group was formed in 1977, funded by CITB; our primary function being to provide access to training for local construction companies, share knowledge and to give advice and guidance throughout the industry to raise standards of training. Going forward, the strategy of the group is to retain existing membership and recruit new members – always a challenging task! We want the industry within the local area to remain strong and assist those involved to continue through this unstable economic climate. The group have been very fortunate in being selected to assist in a National Pilot Scheme with the Pathway to Construction Initiative funded by the FMB. This partnership is already looking successful and will be enormously beneficial to both employers and employees in a time when apprentice recruitment has been decreasing.

I would very much like to extend an invitation to members old and new to join us and take advantage of the support that membership brings.”

Tony Carson – Chairman of PCTG

What we do

Construction is one of the most vital sectors in the UK, making up 8% of GDP, with the expectation of over 230,000 jobs being created nationwide by 2020. The City of Plymouth is anticipated to need an additional 10,000 construction jobs to meet the skills challenge of delivering a wide range of new projects.

Plymouth Construction Training Group is committed to promoting and raising the standards of training activity to the construction industry and its wider membership. We are open to all construction employers and associated industries.

We are an independent “not for profit” members organisation; funded via a CITB grant to support mainly SME construction businesses in Plymouth and the Plymouth travel to work area.

We support businesses by identifying suitable training, then sourcing it locally at subsidised rates for members. We have also had additional funding for the last three years to offer additional discounts to members.

Training is provided in the following areas:

  • Health & Safety
  • Apprenticeships
  • Craft Trades & Operatives, and
  • Management & Supervisory..

Partners & Connections

The Plymouth Construction Training Group work with most local training providers: colleges, training centres, specialist training companies and National Construction College to gain the most complete range of courses (we are also able to organise bespoke/in-house courses for members).
